What is Farm2Future?

Integrated Solutions

Farm2Future explores integrated solutions to some of the most pressing challenges modern cities face in food security. We develop new agri-systems for cities that can produce food on smaller and alternative areas, and protect crops with less environmental impact. Our solutions include stand alone, closed systems for food production, integrated pest management and new innovations in bio-materials.

Urban Farming

Urban Farming is a powerful, locally deployable tool that disrupts traditional ways of thinking about food production and offers integrated solutions to some of the challenges modern cities are facing. The focus of this urban challenge is to support vital cities and local economy by offering systems for:

  • Fresh and local food
  • Local production for local markets
  • Renewable resources for an energy-dependent society
  • Recycling options for water, energy, organic nutrients and carbon (CO2)
  • Opportunities for participation, employment and sustainable socio- economic development

Consulting and workshops

In Enschede, The Netherlands, our Farm2Future group is working on Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The team offers consulting and workshops for farmers, students and others interested in optimizing their food production systems. These workshops are held in the lab at the Spinnerij or on location to better server the needs of the farmer.

Stand alone systems

The location in Heerlen, The Netherlands is optimizing stand alone closed systems for fish farming, mushrooms and small scale vermiculture, with supporting models for herbs and microgreens. Other benefits include a strong business model and dramatically reduced environmental impact.

The Experience Centre

Phase 3 is now underway to expand offerings to include The Experience Centre, with education and training opportunities for youth and the general public. Renowned international Walas partners will be joining the next phase of product and systems development.
